Olivia Helman, Voice

Olivia Helman is an accomplished soprano, musicologist, and dedicated music educator who believes that every student can develop a meaningful and rewarding relationship with music.

Olivia's teaching experience ranges from private voice instruction (classical, musical theater, pop) to tutoring music theory, aural skills, solfège, piano, and music history. She champions actions-based pedagogy which is individualized to each student’s goals, learning style, and experience level. Whether preparing for an audition, building foundational skills, or simply singing for the joy of it, Olivia strives to cultivate a supportive, creative environment where students feel comfortable experimenting while working toward their musical goals and establishing their own unique artistic identities and voices.

As a performer, Olivia has appeared in opera, early music, contemporary music, and chamber settings. Helman’s operatic credits include Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Alcina (Alcina), Drusilla (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and Ines (Il Trovatore). Recent performances also include her appearance as Athena in the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival’s concert premiere of Daniel Purcell’s The Judgment of Paris. 

Olivia holds degrees in voice performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, as well as a BM in voice and music history and literature from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music, where she was awarded the Martha Goldsworthy Arnold Talent Award and took first prize at the NATS Great Lakes Regional Conference. She is passionate about making music education accessible, engaging, and empowering for all students.
