My daughter has developed such a love of the violin in a very short time at Westlake Music Academy. She has made tremendous progress in her skill level and confidence, and gets genuinely excited about each new piece she masters. Her orchestra instructors at school have also noticed a difference in her growth.

I love Westlake Music Academy and my violin teacher...The academy is run in a relaxed yet professional manner. My teacher is excellent. She listens and she’s well-trained as both a player and a teacher.

Westlake Music Academy provides violin lessons as well as viola lessons from ages 4 through adults, from beginning students to advanced players.

When taking violin lessons at Westlake Music Academy, you can expect to cover with your teacher:

  • Healthy posture with comfortable hands and feet. This is important so that the student can play with greater ease and freedom from tension.

  • Proper positioning for both arms and hands, with particular emphasis on good bow hold.

  • Good tone in order to make a richer and more beautiful sound.

  • Intonation, that is, playing on pitch.

  • Reading music. With children ages 4 to 6, learning to read music is delayed until one is older. Instead, the Suzuki approach is used, which emphasizes playing by ear. For older children, teens, and adults, sight-reading skills are considered an important part of training on the instrument as strong reading skills are important in numerous ways. We teach the Suzuki method to young children and use traditional methods for older children and adults.

  • General musicianship. This encourages the student to both express what is contained in the music itself and to express their own emotions, which is something unique to each and every person.

Additionally, rhythm, basic bow strokes, performance preparation, and stage presentation are taught. These enable the student to learn how to be confident and relaxed and enjoy playing for others.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
